Questions and Answers
Pastor Steve gives the weekly children's sermon |
Are There Programs For My Children?
There is a nursery available for pre-school children during our worship service, located in the back classrooms. Of course, parents are not required to take their children to the nursery; some prefer to keep the little ones with them. The nursery is staffed by a rotating group of parents as their ministry to you. We have a high regard for the children in our church family and provide numerous activities besides Sunday School (which is available before worship each week). There are youth groups for teens and Pioneer clubs for those the younger ones.
What Should I Expect When Entering?
You should be welcomed by one of our Greeters. These are families of the church who take a turn welcoming people and giving them a church bulletin. There are special visitor packets also available in the Narthex (lobby) to give you more information. You can sit wherever you want.
Are Visitors "Singled Out"?
No. We believe everyone has a right to worship in anonymity if they so desire. You will not be asked to stand, talk or wear a tag that identifies you as a visitor. However, we would appreciate it if you would fill out one of the index cards in the pew with your name and address. This helps us get to know you.
What Is Your Style Of Worship?
It is a relaxed traditional service where God is worshiped with reverence and love. We sing both traditional church hymns and contemporary praise songs. Other elements of the service include communion (first Sunday of the month), choir or special song, responsive reading, tithes and offerings, scripture lessons and the sermon.
Who Can Take Communion? How Often Is Communion Celebrated?
We observe an "open" communion. In other words, anyone who has received Jesus as their Savior and Lord is invited to take part in the Communion Celebration. You do not have to be a member of this church. Communion is usually served on the first Sunday of each month. Generally the bread and the cup are distributed separately. We usually eat and drink at the same time.
Am I Going To Be Asked For Money?
There is a morning offering to give those who are a regular part of the church an opportunity to give to the Lord and to the support of the ministry of our church. You aren't obligated to give. Many people give once a month, so on any given Sunday there are numerous people who aren't putting something into the plate. We do encourage people to give a percentage of their income. But you will never be pressured to give or asked to give a certain amount.
What Does Membership Involve?
Twice each year we offer a membership class. Those wishing to join the church take that class and then have the option to join or not. Membership at Mt. Hope is based on a simple declaration that Christ is Lord in your life and does not require agreeing with a man-made doctrinal statement.
 The Annual Christmas Pageant |
What Special Services Do You Hold?
Each year we celebrate Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday, Easter, Pentecost and Rally Day (our first Sunday of the school year) with a special service. We also hold either a Maundy Thursday or Good Friday service each year (these are alternated between years).
How Can I Be Involved?
Mt. Hope offers many social groups and activities, which span all ages and interests. Our "Involvement Board" in the church hallway is a great way to sign up for the ones that interest you, and you can take a look on the other pages of this site for ministries and groups that might appeal to you. We are always seeking strong Christian leaders to serve on the various church boards that keep Mt. Hope running!
